Miscellania

NO/GENRE and Curb Dance return to Miscellania for a night of experimental live and club music that aims to bring affordable access to radical free-flowing movement and dance. No matter how you usually interact with live music or the club environment, we ask you to bring an open mind and allow yourself to be immersed; to listen and move to sound and music and noise without being conscious of how you are perceived by other eyes or camera lenses.

A rare sighting: Essendon Airport bring their iconic DIY ethos to the stage. The legendary post-punk minimalists (est. 1979) sound fresher and freer than ever. With hypnotic compositions built from repetition, simplicity and disruption, their sound is a melting pot of post-punk, no wave, deep jazz and ambient. Plus even more live sets from hard-hitting producer and rapper SOLSA, and The Drone Orchestra of strings and synths. Unmissable eclectic DJ sets from Eora/Sydney-based post-genre favourite Jungist and the dangerous techno/ghetto/deconstructed duo Crisis Bangers. Performances from Stacey Collee – whose work reaches towards the raw emotive force of love – and more TBA.

Making their Narrm debut are Queen Asher & Rehema Tajiri, a mother-daughter duo from Dar Es Salaam’s hyper-charged Singeli scene. With Rehema’s commanding vocals and Queen Asher’s trailblazing presence as Singeli’s first female DJ, the pair channel decades of experience and limitless kinetic energy. The two are developing as a uniquely dangerous duo, premiering at Nyege Nyege in 2022 and at CTM in January 2023.

S280F beams in from Los Angeles summoning epic collage music that is completely ahead of the curve. A conjurer of multidimensional sound, S280F expertly welds industrial, hardcore, ambient and post-club music, pushing forward into uncharted sonic territory. It is as beautiful as it is alien.
