Ajak Kwai, Mandeng Groove, Saray Illuminado Femmes, Boo Mojo
Fri 22 Aug
The CurtinAjak Kwai, Mandeng Groove, Saray Iluminado Femmes and Boo Mojo join forces in a genre-defying performance curated by local label Music in Exile.
Ajak Kwai, an icon of Australian-Sudanese music, commands the spotlight with unmistakable vocals, leading a four-piece band. Tune in to powerful tales of exile, hope and love, all shaped by Kwai’s South Sudanese heritage.
Mandeng Groove brings the heartbeat of West Africa to life with a high-energy fusion of rhythm and jazz. Their six-piece ensemble blends jazz, soul, funk and groove into a rich, infectious soundscape that spans continents — impossible to resist.
Saray Iluminado Femmes blur the line between music and ritual, weaving contemporary, diasporic takes on Sephardic Jewish romances and Sevdalinka songs. Their sound is a reawakening of tradition, drawing listeners into an ancient yet ever-evolving world.
Boo Mojo keeps the energy flowing, curating a journey of melodies and rhythms that’ll pull you in and keep you there — engaged, entranced and moving.
