MESS in Conversation: Laurel Halo

Hosted by Dr Robin Fox

Sat 23 Aug

State Library Victoria Theatrette

Boundary-defying composer and producer Laurel Halo joins MESS co-founder Robin Fox to explore a soundworld that drifts between ambient, jazz and avant-pop.

From the acclaimed 2012 debut Quarantine to the masterful Atlas – described as “a potent set of sensual ambient jazz collages comprised of orchestral clouds, shades of modal harmony, hidden sonic details, and detuned, hallucinatory textures” – Laurel Halo continues to reshape the electronic music landscape.

A frequent collaborator with artists including Bendik Giske, Lucy Railton and Moritz von Oswald, Halo brings a tender, textural depth to experimental sound. This conversation opens a portal into process, practice and the evolving potential of listening.

Laurel Halo also performs live at Melbourne Recital Centre on Friday 22 August.
